Martin kubes5/1/2023 ![]() Martin named the Koala Person, Martin 2 and kept him as a pet. This was most likely a lie, however, since Martin sold their Space Moth and went to a bar. Martin, disliking the food, offered to go to the outside world and get them some real food. In " On the Lam," Martin has made his way to a new planet, once again getting himself imprisoned for betting on "lard-fights." He escaped with a Koala Person who took him to his home with many Koala People. Finn then pulls a switch on Martin's now fixed escape pod that sends Martin flying into the air, without the roof of the pod closed fully to keep him inside. ![]() Finn is angered with him by the end of the episode for treating the villagers so badly. The craft is named 'The Minnie' the nickname of Finn's biological Mother. In " The Visitor," he is seen to be living with a large group of small villagers and manipulating them to believe in a tree spirit in order to help him build his escape pod. Grob Gob Glob Grod mistook his ship for the Catalyst Comet and sacrificed himself by flying at the comet and sending it on a course for Earth instead of Mars. In " Astral Plane," it is revealed Martin found a spaceship after the events of " Escape from the Citadel" and was going to crash on Mars. He ultimately causes Finn's arm to be removed, as he tries to escape the Citadel while Finn is holding on to the escaping portal, causing Finn's grass sword to take over and remove itself and part of Finn's arm. He runs away from the problems at the Citadel as the Lich spreads his evil. In " Escape from the Citadel," he is finally revealed but has no clear memory of his son, Finn, or why he deserted him. ![]() The episode cuts to a brief scene that shows a silhouette of a man trapped in a crystal aboard a massive space station. Billy explains to Finn that his human father is trapped in the Crystal Citadel. He was first revealed in " Billy's Bucket List", albeit briefly.

The escapists review5/1/2023 ![]() This game doesn’t give me that same feeling and, usually, if I get caught by the guards it’s because I did something stupid. I got lost very easily in The Escapists and felt as though I didn’t really know what I was doing, often getting blasted by the guards when I didn’t even realise I was doing anything wrong. The interface is slightly more complicated than the first game, but also more user friendly. And oh, what a lovely minimap, expandable to full screen and scrollable. And then each of the 10 included prisons provides you with a scripted camera pan across important points in the prison as the warden shows you around your new home. There’s an in-game menu help section with screenshots and plenty of information, as well as a short tutorial level - Precinct 17 - set with a funny story told from the perspective of its protagonist, in order to introduce you to the game’s basics. This sense of refinement continues into the game itself. Where The Escapists seemed like it had grown from a prototype that had never been abandoned for the real thing, The Escapists 2 oozes high production values everywhere: fancy intro, nice menu interface, well-implemented Steam integration, mostly excellent grammar, and an overall game structure that, while being somewhat traditional in its reward-based progression, is familiar and well thought out. When I first loaded up the game I was impressed by the presentation and structure. ![]() So you have to be clever, ensuring the guards see you at each location designated by the schedule, while you plot your escape, collect the items you need, and craft your jail-breaking tools! You can ignore the schedule entirely, but that’s a sure-fire way to getting caught and placed in solitary confinement. You’re dropped in a prison as a new inmate, told to stick to the rigid time-based schedule each day, and then left to your own devices, dreaming of escape. ![]() The basic gameplay is extremely similar to The Escapists, though it has been refined and expanded significantly. Nothing stands out as being exceptional here, but I also have no complaints about any of the sound. They are volume-normalised properly and well produced. Sound effects are appropriate to the action. It’s not the sort of thing I’d choose to listen to normally, but it suits the game well and has a consistent overall sound. In-game there are a few different background tracks that play depending on the situation. The soundtrack to the game sounds to me like a 90s midi festival, with tracks in many different styles: the title music is a sort of sneaky heist number, while the credits are a western theme. I haven’t had any graphical glitches or performance issues. Graphics options are limited to vsync, resolution, windowed / full screen, blur, and a detail level for shadows. The detail is good, given the graphical style. Most floors and walls are destructible, and there’s a huge array of crafting components, weapons, crafted objects, and other general scenery objects lying around, some of which are movable. The core game includes 10 different prisons, which vary vastly in appearance as well as setting and escape methods. ![]() Animations are good, too, though there isn’t a huge amount of variation in them. These don’t make any difference to the gameplay, but they’re still a nice reward. When you start a level you can customise (or randomise) the appearance of the cons and guards in the prison, and as you play you unlock further customisation options as well. Whereas The Escapists made use of reasonably well-made pixel graphics, this sequel improves upon them immensely everything looks so much nicer in full-screen HD resolutions now! The characters appear much more cartoon-like, though, which may not appeal to fans of the blockier graphics from the first game.Ĭharacters have a lot of personality.

Thebrain 105/1/2023 ![]() Resolution of the clinical and cognitive symptoms typically follows a sequential course. Sport related concussion results in a range of clinical symptoms that may or may not involve loss of consciousness.Sport related concussion may result in neuropathological changes, but the acute clinical symptoms largely reflect a functional disturbance rather than a structural injury and, as such, no abnormality is seen on standard structural neuroimaging studies. However, in some cases, signs and symptoms evolve over a number of minutes to hours. Sport related concussion typically results in the rapid onset of short-lived impairment of neurological function that resolves spontaneously.Sport related concussion may be caused either by a direct blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere on the body with an “impulsive” force transmitted to the head.Several common features that may be utilized in clinically defining the nature of a concussive head injury include: Sport related concussion is a traumatic brain injury induced by biomechanical forces. Minor revisions were made to the definition of concussion, which is defined as follows: It was also noted that the term commotio cerebri is often used in European and other countries. Concussion is a subset of TBI and will be the term used in this document. Sport-related concussion is the historical term representing low velocity injuries that cause brain ‘shaking’ resulting in clinical symptoms and that are not necessarily related to a pathological injury. The 5th International Conference on Concussion in Sport held in Berlin, Germany, in 2016 defined Sport-related Concussion as: A concussion may result from shaking the brain within the skull and, if severe, can cause shearing injuries to nerve fibers and neurons. Speech: Difficulty finding the "right" word difficulty expressing words or thoughts dysarthric or slurred speechĬoncussions frequently affect athletes in both contact and non-contact sports, and are considered to be diffuse brain injuries that traumatically induce alterations of mental status.Cognitive: Agitation confusion shortened attention span easily distracted overstimulated by environment difficulty following directions or understanding information feeling of disorientation and confusion and other neuropsychological deficiencies. ![]() Sensory: Changes in ability to hear, taste or see dizziness hypersensitivity to light or sound.Motor Dysfunction: Inability to control or coordinate motor functions, or disturbance with balance.Individuals with TBI may experience one or more of the following: Mild cases (mild, traumatic brain injury, or mTBI) may result in a brief change in mental state or consciousness, while severe cases may result in extended periods of unconsciousness, coma or even death. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of damage to the brain. TBI can result when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, or when an object pierces the skull and enters brain tissue. While most brain injuries are self-limiting with symptoms resolving in a week, a growing amount of research has now established that the sequelae from recurrent minor impacts is significant in the long term.Ī traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as a form of acquired brain injury from a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. It is important to recognize when a head trauma is severe or has resulted in a TBI because it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention. ![]() Sustaining an injury while playing sports can range from a mild physical trauma such as a scalp contusion or laceration to severe TBI with concurrent bleeding in the brain or coma. Amongst American children and adolescents, sports and recreational activities contribute to over 21 percent of all traumatic brain injuries. There are an estimated 1.7 to 3.8 million traumatic brain injuries each year in the United States, according to the CDC, of which 10 percent arise due to sports and recreational activities. Lightwright 6 tips5/1/2023 “I ran with a friend who was wearing the Spark up in the Adirondacks,” said deputy editor Jeff Dengate. You buy it for the grip to dodge roots and rocks at speed, or heck, even hop an OCR fire pit and scale a rope wall. But you don’t buy the Spark for its cushioning. No, the fairly standard dense EVA midsole isn’t on par with the latest bouncy nitrogen-injected TPU offerings out there. The shoe is designed to be super lightweight and fast, so while you won’t get cushioning for an ultra, the foam underfoot feels ample for trail runs and obstacle races. How? The Spark uses VJ’s 100 percent butyl rubber, which lets the outsole grip slick terrain due to its tacky hold and overall flexibility. “And wow, I felt fast-like I was ready to put a big race on my calendar.”Īt five millimeters, the Spark’s lugs aren’t super long, and they’re not sharp like a set of YakTrax, but this shoe offers some of the best traction we’ve tested. “Normally, Asics’s cushioning feels way too soft for me-but these were comfortable to go 26.2 miles without being too cushy,” one tester said. It helps that the shoe is radically light as well, weighing about the same as the benchmark Nike Vaporfly. So, when you’re digging for that second-half speed in a marathon, you’ll still have some gas left in the tank to negative split. That, plus a carbon-fiber plate in the forefoot, help improve your stride efficiency. It pairs a rocker-style midsole with an aggressive toe spring that’s designed to help reduce excess movement of the ankle, saving runners some energy. Just when you thought Asics’s legacy was solely stalwart daily trainers, the brand surprises with the MetaRacer, its first carbon-fiber-plated racing shoe. Some testers found the toe box could rub the pinky toes.“As someone who runs competitively, while also having extremely flat feet, some shoes can be uncomfortable when running,” one of our collegiate wear-testers said, “but I’ve gotten through all of my workouts without any problem in these shoes, even after putting 200 miles on them.” Some testers say, paradoxically, that it feels firm but delivers all the cushioning they require. (Check out Asics’s Gel-DS Trainer 26, Topo Athletic’s Ultrafly 3, and Saucony’s Fastwitch 9, too.) The first Prism was too soft, but the second iteration has been dialed in. While this type of lightweight stability shoe used to be more popular, some brands are still making good options. And they’re not just for plodding along, either: Just look at the Prism, a lightweight, stable speedster that’s well-suited for track sessions, tempo runs, and even racing. Stability shoes have been a dying breed, but they’re not dead yet. Not as bouncy as New Balance’s neutral FuelCell Rebel v2.In short, the latest developments in design, chemistry, and biomechanics have led to shoes that can help you run faster and farther-or at the very least, feel lighter on your feet while you’re doing it. Brands have further refined their newest lightweight running shoes by analyzing stride and gait patterns, using impact-measuring devices, and creating proprietary foams that return more energy with each footstrike. Carrying less weight on your feet can result in less energy expenditure and improved form and biomechanics, which similarly boosts stride economy and efficiency. The appeal of lightweight shoes is simply better running performance that feels more effortless. Most Cushioned: Skechers GOrun Maxroad 5.Best for Speedwork: Brooks Hyperion Tempo. Most Versatile: New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2.Most Stable: New Balance FuelCell Prism v2.Of the hundreds of pairs we test each year at Runner’s World, the 10 options below are the razor-thin racers, plush long-run-capable trainers, and trail shoes that most impressed our team with their feather-light weights and phenomenal performance. On this list, you’ll find pairs that cater to every preference for cushioning and support. Thanks to new midsole foams and upper materials, supportive and even maximally cushioned shoes can come in well under eight ounces. For instance, you used to have to sacrifice some cushioning to save ounces-that’s no longer the case. Lightweight running shoes have come a long way as both racing flats and daily trainers.

Check If the iPhone is Stuck in Headphone Mode ![]() We will be reporting from the Urban Grand Challenge, letting you know the progress of Team Lux and the other entrants, this fall. Sick's Ibeo division has that covered, as it has been working on shape recognition software for almost 10 years. But sensors are easy-the difficult part is processing that information into something useful that the car can react to. Although the sensors seem minimal, the team says it gives the car 360 degree detection. The Lux car will have just two laser sensors in front and one in back. Lux brags on its Web site that the car doesn't look like a robot car, unlike the 2005 Grand Challenge entrants with sensors sticking out all over the place. The Team Lux car, a Volkwagen Passat TDI wagon, doesn't sound particularly advanced. It's unlikely that Sick would give its own team an edge by withholding sensors from the other team, but the fact that the Team Lux members are all former employees of Sick's automotive division, Ibeo, it would seem they have an edge. This team is sponsored by Sick, a German company that makes the sensors many teams relied on for the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge. But we just got hip to one pretty professional entrant, Team Lux. We are eagerly looking forward to the DARPA Urban Grand Challenge, coming this fall, if only to see what kind of damage the robot cars involved will wreak on the course.

Tom petty wildflowers chords4/30/2023 Wildflowers, one of Tom Petty’s great albums (one of many great albums by him) has eight great songs. The rare superstars often have a dozen or more great songs - enough to fill a greatest hits album or two. One is one more than me! Most well known artists have a handful of great songs - that’s why they’re well known. Based on all that I should probably have a Tom Petty tattoo (sadly, I can’t get a tattoo because I suffer from extreme softness), but I just never really appreciated TP until he was gone way too soon.Įven though EONS is all about album appreciation, I secretly believe that all artists have a certain number of great songs within them. Best of all, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers was the first concert that I went to with my eldest son Nate (Fenway Park, 2014). I adored him as part of the Traveling Wilburys (side note: The Traveling Wilburys and The Highwaymen are the only bands legally allowed to be called “supergroups”). I loved Southern Accents and those trippy videos after the cable man finally came to town. I remember getting Damn The Torpedoes on vinyl for my birthday. I wouldn’t even have thought of him.īut Tom was always there throughout my entire life, with great song after great song. If you ever asked me 'who my favorite artist was' or 'who’s the best American songwriter' or ‘which rocker would I want to go gator hunting with on an airboat’ I never would have said Tom Petty. I think I’m going to pick up that guitar again and see where it takes me. And here I am nearly 30 years later discovering it anew. ![]() I loved this album the day it was released. The best of the best records reveal something new with each revolution. It’s a naked confessional yet somehow a pep talk to himself. Rick Rubin’s production is majestic, strings bringing gravity to the lyrics, some of which Petty utters as spoken words. I always wondered whether the opening “Wildflowers” - seemingly about a girl – was actually a hidden or even unwitting self-portrait (“you belong where you feel free”). The finale, “Wake Up Time,” is the natural bookend to the title track. But this one finishes even stronger than it starts, with 4 simply great songs that capture Petty’s midlife catharsis. Normally a 15-song album would be bloated, full of filler. (Aside: this is the third essay in which I’ve mentioned Drake maybe I should just get it over with and write about him next.) Such as “Don’t Fade On Me,” co-written with Mike Campbell, which is so evocative of Nick Drake that I had to double-check it wasn’t a cover. Yet the songs that stand out most to me this time around are the more intimate, hidden gems. In addition to the title track, there are several mainstream rock hits: “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” “You Wreck Me,” “It’s Good To Be King,” and “A Higher Place.” The album includes familiar staples of Petty’s catalog. There is a sense of self-awareness that didn’t strike me back then, but I recognize now that I’m 50 and have lived a little myself. The whole thing is ironic, given he’s less than a year from divorce, himself heartbroken. ![]() Wildflowers is a “solo” Petty album untethered from The Heartbreakers, yet most of the band plays on nearly every tune. But upon further listening, it’s a deep, sprawling journey of reflection, regret, hope and wistful freedom. Sure, the songs are predominantly spare, relying mostly on straightforward arrangements, basic chords and his trademark, accessible melodies. ![]() The song was “Wildflowers.” It was easy.īoy, was I in for a surprise, because Wildflowers is perhaps his most complex work. I picked up my guitar and played it by ear. One night I threw the new Tom Petty record on my stereo and all of a sudden something clicked. It was also the day of the week when new albums were released. Tuesdays were for cramming after a week of procrastination. But I was just going through the motions, barely practicing scales in between lessons. On Wednesdays, I’d carry my Martin acoustic on a walk along the water to see my instructor at his studio not far away. I was not quite engaged, living alone, killing time, learning guitar. Back in 1994, I lived in a gentrified old mill building set on a river, a short distance from a classic New England town center. |
