Tom petty wildflowers chords4/30/2023 Wildflowers, one of Tom Petty’s great albums (one of many great albums by him) has eight great songs. The rare superstars often have a dozen or more great songs - enough to fill a greatest hits album or two. One is one more than me! Most well known artists have a handful of great songs - that’s why they’re well known. Based on all that I should probably have a Tom Petty tattoo (sadly, I can’t get a tattoo because I suffer from extreme softness), but I just never really appreciated TP until he was gone way too soon.Įven though EONS is all about album appreciation, I secretly believe that all artists have a certain number of great songs within them. Best of all, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers was the first concert that I went to with my eldest son Nate (Fenway Park, 2014). I adored him as part of the Traveling Wilburys (side note: The Traveling Wilburys and The Highwaymen are the only bands legally allowed to be called “supergroups”). I loved Southern Accents and those trippy videos after the cable man finally came to town. I remember getting Damn The Torpedoes on vinyl for my birthday. I wouldn’t even have thought of him.īut Tom was always there throughout my entire life, with great song after great song. If you ever asked me 'who my favorite artist was' or 'who’s the best American songwriter' or ‘which rocker would I want to go gator hunting with on an airboat’ I never would have said Tom Petty. I think I’m going to pick up that guitar again and see where it takes me. And here I am nearly 30 years later discovering it anew. ![]() I loved this album the day it was released. The best of the best records reveal something new with each revolution. It’s a naked confessional yet somehow a pep talk to himself. Rick Rubin’s production is majestic, strings bringing gravity to the lyrics, some of which Petty utters as spoken words. I always wondered whether the opening “Wildflowers” - seemingly about a girl – was actually a hidden or even unwitting self-portrait (“you belong where you feel free”). The finale, “Wake Up Time,” is the natural bookend to the title track. But this one finishes even stronger than it starts, with 4 simply great songs that capture Petty’s midlife catharsis. Normally a 15-song album would be bloated, full of filler. (Aside: this is the third essay in which I’ve mentioned Drake maybe I should just get it over with and write about him next.) Such as “Don’t Fade On Me,” co-written with Mike Campbell, which is so evocative of Nick Drake that I had to double-check it wasn’t a cover. Yet the songs that stand out most to me this time around are the more intimate, hidden gems. In addition to the title track, there are several mainstream rock hits: “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” “You Wreck Me,” “It’s Good To Be King,” and “A Higher Place.” The album includes familiar staples of Petty’s catalog. There is a sense of self-awareness that didn’t strike me back then, but I recognize now that I’m 50 and have lived a little myself. The whole thing is ironic, given he’s less than a year from divorce, himself heartbroken. ![]() Wildflowers is a “solo” Petty album untethered from The Heartbreakers, yet most of the band plays on nearly every tune. But upon further listening, it’s a deep, sprawling journey of reflection, regret, hope and wistful freedom. Sure, the songs are predominantly spare, relying mostly on straightforward arrangements, basic chords and his trademark, accessible melodies. ![]() The song was “Wildflowers.” It was easy.īoy, was I in for a surprise, because Wildflowers is perhaps his most complex work. I picked up my guitar and played it by ear. One night I threw the new Tom Petty record on my stereo and all of a sudden something clicked. It was also the day of the week when new albums were released. Tuesdays were for cramming after a week of procrastination. But I was just going through the motions, barely practicing scales in between lessons. On Wednesdays, I’d carry my Martin acoustic on a walk along the water to see my instructor at his studio not far away. I was not quite engaged, living alone, killing time, learning guitar. Back in 1994, I lived in a gentrified old mill building set on a river, a short distance from a classic New England town center.

There are lots of incentives for doing just that. Microsoft has made its preference clear: The company believes that “ the cloud will power the work of the future” and would love it if everyone purchased Microsoft 365. Why choose to buy it one way and not the other? The answer can be confusing, especially since each suite of tools includes most of the same applications, give or take. In this story, we’ll use “Microsoft 365” as shorthand for all “365” subscriptions unless we’re referring to a specific plan. At the enterprise level, both Office 365 and Microsoft 365 plans are available. When this version was introduced in 2011, Microsoft called it Office 365, later renaming it Microsoft 365 for personal and small business subscriptions. There’s the “perpetual” version of Office that’s available as a one-time purchase the most current version is Office 2021. This suite of productivity tools is used by people working in 106 languages in nearly every country in the world, and it’s available in versions for personal, small business, enterprise, and educational use.īut there is more than one way to buy Office - or, rather, to buy the license to use it. ![]() Trials/Demosįirst, you’ll want to download trials of a few options to test them out. ![]() We’ve also mentioned this over in our Music Production Software guide, so go give that a read too. They moved everything familiar. Before we delve into the array of options, there are a few key factors that you should take on board. Friends tell me that Win 10 is better than 8, so will give it a shot. Just switched a laptop to windows 10 to check it out. HAH stratology - I'm using windows 7 on my PC. If I can get away with a solution for $500-$800, I will give it a shot for sure. Although I do know Ableton is a powerful and competent program, I'd still like to try messing with Logic Pro X for awhile. I just thought it would be cool to add a mac to a small desk in the corner of my room which would be used only for music work only, just because from using Garage Band - man do I like how Apple's programming feels and how easily I intuitively got around it. ![]() Now they've released newer motherboards, so I am a bit behind the curve! All solid state drives for project work and OS, great video card, sick CPU, and my PC just hums along ( bottom of this thread is current build if anyone's curious). Few Macs will keep up with the PC I custom built for Adobe Premiere Pro. Hah, I'm not planning to switch from PC to mac in general. However, I'd advise to make a special user account for music production only. Optimizing for audio - well, I guess I agree partly with this, but it depends on the performance experienced.Īnd while you don't need to keep the machine off the internet, you don't for a PC either if you're just a little bit smart about it. Third party plugins will not automatically work without a hitch when a new OS comes along. I partly disagree with the ones in bold above. This may be a good place to get started, you can switch to the more complicated, full blown interface later (in Logic's Preferences). When you first start Logic on a new Mac, it will open in a simplified, GarageBand like mode. Even if you read only the chapter about the Finder, it's worth the price of admission (you can get the book in iBooks for your iPad.) David Pogue's 'Missing Manual' books for OS X are great, they will get you started in no time. no need to have an 'audio-only' machine, or keep it off the Internet no need to 'optimise' the computer for audio keep the OS up to date, no need to stay on an outdated OS (given that plug ins and DAW are compatible - all of the good ones keep up with OS releases). do not install any antivirus software or cleaner apps, they do more harm than good Some things will be different when you switch to a Mac: An SSD is always a good idea in terms of performance. Anything above 8GB RAM is good, get more if you plan large projects (over 50 tracks). In terms of specs, all current Macs will run Logic without issue. Logic is the best 'value for money' DAW in terms of content, but it's worth downloading demos of other DAWs, to find out what you like best. Any suggestions you guys may have on what to run Logic Pro X on would be appreciated. I'm asking for some advice/suggestions in this forum because it really seems that there are a lot of very technical folks here. I've already done some research on this and it seems like a late 2012 Mac Mini is the most cost effective way to go, all though the all in one MACs look appealing as well due to the form factor of not having so many wires around. Just not sure on the years of compatibility. So I figure it may also work with a MAC, since MAC software is available. ![]() For an audio interface I run the Kemper SPDIF through a MOTU 828MKii which goes via firewire to my PC (not the usual USB). I've only watched a few tutorials and can get around it, but I find it a bit painful. I currently use Ableton Live 8, and it is a bit non-intuitive and clunky to me. Doing more research, I read that Logic Pro X is Garage Band on super steroids. Garage Band's simplicity and intuitive use struck me and a light went off "this is why people use Apples!", I said to myself. Long story short, and the way I came to purchase a Kemper: Purchased an iPad Mini 2 for use with photo equipment, started messing with Garage Band, this led me to pick up my guitar after a 3 year hiatus, saw a Muse concert around the same time, heard they used this think called a Kemper, looked up Kemper, bought a lunchbox, got rid of my amp and stomps, and here we are. Music would be the dedicated use of the Apple! I am a PC guy (I built a monster PC for photo/video processing) looking to buy an Apple computer (most cost effective solution) of some sort for the sole reason of running Logic Pro X.

Pianoteq bells4/29/2023 ![]() Strike location would be affected by the water level.striking the side of the class above the water level would sound different from striking below the water level. You could have tapered glasses where the lower water levels would produce a faster wobble cue to the smaller diameter. Diameter of the glass would affect the frequency of the wobble. Glasses with water: each hit would add to the energy of the wobble (wave). Maybe Peter Gabriel? Sort of a thunder effect. A set of classic effects (stereo tremolo, wah, phasing, distortion and so on) enhances the piano’s hip retro appeal. I've seen it used before, but I can't remember where. Its fully adjustable, bell-like ‘tine noise’ attack is more realistic than that of Pianoteq’s Vintage Tines MkI instrument, and the overall tone is clear, incisive and sustaining. The pianoteq U4 is a nice sounding upright piano. Using the ' bright preset ' switch the eq off, and switch all the mikes on and it sounds fantastic and plays like only a modelled piano can. However, my favorite one is the arturia V2 japanese grand. I don't have the steel drum pack (yet) so I don't know if this is something that can already be simulated.
